Background & Education: In 2001, I graduated with a Masters of Arts in Psychology from Towson University, and enrolled in Loyola University of Baltimore's Doctor of Psychology program. While earning my PsyD, I worked part-time as a Masters-level clinician for a community crisis response center, and as a counselor and psychometrician for a private practice that worked with city and county police officers, spouses, and families. I completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at American University's counseling center and after receiving my PsyD, participated in postdoctoral training at Georgetown University's Counseling and Psychological Services. After my pre and post doctoral training was completed, I went to work for the Department of Defense, while continuing to see a small caseload of private therapy clients. For the past 15 years, I have grown my practice and now offer my skills as a group and individual psychotherapist, as well as a consultant to individuals, businesses, and organizations.
Group and Individual Psychotherapy
In my therapy practice, I believe there is as much value in group interactions, as there is in individual therapy. Individuals typically seek out help from me for relational difficulties, issues with self-esteem, over achievement, depression, anxiety, and transitions, including a pending separation or divorce from a spouse. I also work with individuals from diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds, people who experience concerns related to sexual orientation, and challenges related to identity development. Lastly, I have a significant amount of post doctoral training and experience working with individuals employed by NGO's, Government, and Defense and security-related positions (including individuals retired from the Special Operations Community) who have returned to the US after performing in high threat or unconventional assignments. In particular, individuals serving in these positions have found it beneficial to process and understand the physiological and emotional impacts of their experience as they transition back to life in the US, or move from an unconventional to more traditional career path.
Supervision & Training
In addition to conducting psychotherapy in my practice, I also participate in the supervision and training of therapists. I am an adjunct faculty member for the Doctor of Psychology Program at The George Washington University and am a faculty member for the Washington School of Psychiatry's National Group Psychotherapy Institute. Lastly, I belong to professional organizations that promote Group Psychotherapy including: the American Group Psychotherapy Association (AGPA), where I have presented at the AGPA annual meeting on topics related to training psychotherapists; and the Mid Atlantic Group Psychotherapy Society (MAGPS), where I am currently serving as the President Elect for the organization and have also been on the Board since 2010.
Organizational Consultation
I also utilize my psychology degree and advanced training in group and organizational dynamics to consult to human resource and security components of organizations. I specialize in providing and offering consultation on protective factors, or, conditions or attributes that when present in individuals, businesses, communities, or groups promote health and well being, and mitigate or eliminate risk of harm to another person, organizational resource, or entity. In addition to private consulting, I also have alliances with the Insider Risk Group (IRG) and Operational Psychology Services (OPS), where I work with experts assessing internal and external threats to people and corporations.
