Background: I have practiced in a variety of settings to include college counseling centers, a community mental health clinic, and private practice. Particularly, my interests include working with: early adult transition issues, individuals from diverse ethnic/cultural backgrounds, concerns related to sexual orientation, identity development, relational difficulties, self-esteem, depression, and anxiety. I also have a significant amount of experience working with individuals (to include paramilitary/military personnel and family members) being treated for issues related to traumatic bereavement, acute or post traumatic stress, and grief and loss. Treatment Approach:
cognitive behavioral techniques depending upon your presenting concerns. I attempt to tailor my activity in sessions to what seems needed. In general I might characterize my participation as a psychotherapist as 'moderate,' meaning that I typically do not sit silently; however, also prefer to let you do the talking and interject to help facilitate your ability to find answers, etc. In addition to focusing on the presenting concern, I also help clients explore past relationships because I believe that many of the patterns we find ourselves in today are related to earlier life experiences. Lastly, I hope to provide you with a better understanding of your own character and the dynamics you bring into relationships. Availability: I work with adults, 18 and older, and am available evenings by appointment. psychologist dupont circle psychotherapy dupont circle psychology dupont circle |
